Dr. Judith Andersen is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Affiliated Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She is the Director of the Health, Adaptation, Research on Trauma (HART) Lab.

Dr. Andersen’s research focuses on the impact of severe stress on health and occupational functioning among law enforcement professionals and first responders. Her research has informed the development of interventions to enhance first responder’s health and occupational effectiveness by modulating autonomic nervous system reactivity.

Dr. Andersen is a leading scholar in the science of police use of force and de-escalation training reform. Her work, recognized by both the federal and provincial government, is being used to shape police training practices in North America and Europe.

Her work has been published in field relevant journals, such as JAMA Psychiatry, Health Psychology, Psychoneuroendocrinology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychological Science. Professor Andersen has been featured on international media outlets such as NPR, BBC, NBC, CBC, and numerous newsprint publications.
