Steve Schnitzer

Steve was a member of the Vancouver Police Department for 30 years and was promoted to the rank of Superintendent in 2007, with responsibility for Personnel Services. This executive position included responsibility for Human Resources, Recruiting and Training and Professional Standards.

After retiring in September 2010, he joined the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), initially as the Program Manager for the Law Enforcement and Regulatory Training program. He was subsequently appointed Program Director in the Justice and Public Safety Division and led Continuing Professional Education and Academic Programs. In 2012 he assumed the role of Director – JIBC Police Academy. As Director, Steve oversaw the training of all municipal police recruits in the Province of British Columbia.

Steve retired for a second time in August 2021 and currently teaches part-time at JIBC in the Bachelor of Law Enforcement Studies (BLES) Program.

Steve has an MA in Leadership and Training (MALT) from Royal Roads University, a Certificate in Human Resource Management from the BC Institute of Technology, and a Certificate in Criminology from Douglas College.
