Jason Godin has served as the National Union President of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers (UCCO-SACC-CSN) since May 2016, although he previously was part of the national executive. With 26 years of experience as a Correctional Officer for Correctional Services Canada, he has worked in Quinte Detention Centre, Kingston Penitentiary, and Millhaven Institution. Beyond his decades of front-line experience and years as a union representative, Godin has testified before the Public Safety Committee on Occupational Stress Injuries (October 2017); presented before the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security regarding Bill C-83 (November 2018); and has advocated for Correctional Officers’ well-being publicly and respectfully. He has been part of meetings with The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (most recently in April 2018), drawing attention to officers’ concerns about changes in Administrative Segregation, Blood Samples Act, Body Scanners (as a search tool), and the Prison Needle Exchange program. In addition, Godin has been involved in Return to Work Committees and Mental Health Committees that strive to meet the needs of Correctional Officers nationally.
